C.E. Lovejoy’s & Shoppers Donate 62 Bags of Groceries to Bethlehem Inn
Locally Owned Business and Its Shoppers Donate 62 Bags of Groceries to Area Shelter
Bend, OR (January 22, 2013) – While temperatures may have been below freezing last week, the warmth of an entire community was felt on Monday, January 14th when over 60 bags of groceries were delivered to Bethlehem Inn as part of C.E. Lovejoy’s Brookswood Market’s annual “Help Fight Hunger Campaign.” Every year in November and December, shoppers at the popular southwest Bend grocery store donate $10.00 toward pre-packaged grocery bags. Lovejoy’s then matches the funds (for a $20 total value) and delivers the bags to the local homeless shelter.
“This is one of our most meaningful campaigns of the year,” said Diana Franko, Lovejoy’s Store Manager. “Even with financial challenges still facing many of us, we actually had more community members participate than last year. It’s very encouraging to see the tremendous spirit of giving and we’re proud to stand with our customers to support this organization focused on Central Oregonians. We will be shooting for 100 bags in the 2013 program!”
“Help Fight Hunger” is a nationally recognized effort by independent grocers across the United States to partner with their patrons and make substantial donations to people in need in their local communities. Over 4,500 pounds of food were donated locally across the nation this year. The bags were filled with much needed items, including: cereal, noodles, canned vegetables, fruit juice and spaghetti sauce.
Bethlehem Inn, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is located on North Highway 97 in Bend and is “Central Oregon’s largest emergency shelter for homeless families, men and women of our region.” Additional information about how you can help support the shelter through donations, gifts and volunteering can be found at www.bethleheminn.org.
